Marine Casualty Investigation Board finds lack of safety and risk management training in multiple recent incidents in Ireland.
This is a suitable entry level risk management and travel awareness course for those responsible for the organising and running of off-site activities. It is a widely respected safety course with global appeal and knowledge that is transferable to many sectors.
It is also applicable to organisations looking to align themselves with the standard BS:8848 2014, the standard for safety in adventurous activities.

The course is designed to assist delegates to develop sufficient knowledge and understanding to manage groups going off-site safely. It is divided into three parts, 'Planning, Managing and Auditing'.
It is delivered via case studies, small group discussions and presentations. The content will be relevant to both an Irish and international legislative context.
The course is delivered by a Fellow of the RGS & member of the IOSH for safety professionals. With relevant experience in adventure travel, expeditions and outdoor education spanning over 20 years.
The course is 15 hours in duration delivered over two days. Minimum numbers are required.

All delegates receive a certificate of attendance from the Royal Geographic Society.
If you are member of the Mountain Training Association (MTA) this course qualifies for CPD credits.
This two day training costs €200 per person.
Here we cover those aspects of planning which must be completed before a group departs. It includes assessing the needs of the group, group to leader ratios, completing a risk assessment and contingency planning.
We will review Irish and European case studies of outdoor incidents.
A common finding in MCIB incidents is the complete lack of safety management systems, adequate risk assessment and lack of qualifications to meet duty of care requirements.
The safe management of an activity is critical for dealing with real time events as they arise. We will learn about the appropriate actions and procedures when dealing with both a minor and major incidents.
Having contingency plans in place before the activity commences and responding adequately when incidents occur.
